As for Tookie, it's a very simple issue in my perspective. In our system of
laws and accountability of behavior, the matter is clear. He committed the
murders, was convicted and has run out his string of appeals. I don't see where
faith comes into the equation. I'm a devout believer and at least as passionate
about truth as the next guy. What I don't understand in the current discussion,
well, recently current discussion of offering clemency to Tookie is this... At
what point does the law become interpretive "after" the punishment
has been doled out? We cannot open justice to the dynamic of personal feelings
and emotions. Although our circuit court judges are doing a fair job just this.
It's the same syndrome of relativism without any absolutes, without
accountability for actions. Our law is not a discussion of our faith. And God
seems to have no problem with capital punishment even in the New Testament.
Don't lie about how much you make on the sale of a field.
